Connecting people with their wild spirit and the wildness of nature. Enabling people to make authentic and deep connections with nature to effect personal change, create wellbeing and develop meaningful relationships with the earth.
Simple and wild, based on old ways of being in the woods and in nature - with a modern twist. An antidote to urban living and a place to re-connect with your wilder self. Woodland Journeys is based in the northern Blackdown Hills on the Devon Somerset Border.
For Children
'Forest School' is a process of learning that focuses on our natural curiosity about what is around us. More than a set of activities, a series of forest school sessions create the space for learning, with the Leader finding out what interests or excites children, and then following that direction. It's easy in the woods, as there is so much to explore, climb, make and find out. The seasons change, new plants grow, animals leave tracks, a shelter needs building, a fire needs lighting... We celebrate achievements, reflect what we've done and encourage the growth of the each child. More information...
For Teenagers
Building a real campfire, learning to use a knife properly, tracking wild animals and cooking a proper meal on the fire. Bushcraft and woodland skills really appeal to teenagers. I am developing a wild Rites of Passage camp for 12-15 year olds with two nights at the Young Wood base in the Blackdown Hills. If you’d like to partcipate in programmes this year contact me
For Families
Our modern lives are so busy and full, that it’s hard to find space to be together. Playing with your children in the woods, with someone to lead the session takes the pressure off. Family Bushcraft days are for all ages and abilities, parents, carers, grandparents. Build a den together, explore the foods and find some wild food, track a deer or make a wand! Come to an organised day or get together with some friends and contact us to book your own day.
For Adults
Imagine sitting next to a campfire, in a circle of trees deep in the forest. No sounds of traffic, only the rustle of leaves and the crackle of flames. You could be whittling a hazel walking stick, making some cordage from nettles, drinking hawthorn tea or enjoying the space to just be. We’re running Retreats in the Woods, Woodland Immersions for Forest School Leaders and Wild Camps. Contact us to find out more.
Support for Groups, Business and Organisations
With a background in group facilitation and organisation development, we can organise a team day or camp for your group or company. Based around simple woodcraft activities or team challenges, we can help to build your team's social and emotional skills in a setting where everyone is faced with their raw nature. Being in a circle around the fire, working as a community in the outdoors to make sure everyones basic needs are met - these simple challenges bring people together. More about my approach
